In the theatrical cut he sounds like he's trying to be this unstoppable force, always in control. But in that prison scene, his voice cracks and he sounds more like a guy who's been beaten down by the world, not a monster. That little bit of vulnerability makes the whole "mask effect" feel less like a gimmick and more like a real person trying to be heard through a broken machine. So when you rewatch the main movie after that, his normal voice actually carries more of that hidden sadness instead of just sounding like a joke.
