My deleted scene nitpicking made my friend re-edit his whole short film

So my buddy is working on his indie horror short and asked me to check out a rough cut. I pointed out this one blooper where you could see the boom mic dip into frame for like half a second during a jump scare. He said I was being too picky but then he rewatched it three times and got mad that he couldn't unsee it. Next thing I know he spent an entire weekend color grading around that one spot to obscure it. Has anyone else accidentally become the person who ruins a movie for someone because of a tiny mistake?

The boom mic thing is basically film school hazing at this point, every single person who watches a rough cut is contractually obligated to spot it first. He should actually thank you because now he gets to tell the "remember when Jenkins made us re-edit the whole movie" story at every festival screening for the next ten years.

Yeah but let me play the other side here. You literally made a guy throw away a whole weekend because of a half second mistake that 99% of viewers would never notice. Half second. That's nothing during a jump scare where people are already flinching. Now he spent probably 10+ hours messing with color grading when he could have been working on sound design or pacing which actually matter more for horror.
