I finally came around on director's cuts after watching Kingdom of Heaven
Used to think deleted scenes were just padding but that movie's theatrical version made zero sense then I saw the 3 hour cut on streaming and suddenly the whole story clicked. Has anyone else had a director's cut completely flip your opinion on a movie you already saw?

Nah, I'm gonna push back. It's still the same movie just longer. If the theatrical version didn't work, that's on the director for not getting it right the first time, not on the audience to hunt down some "true" version.

Haven't you ever seen a movie get fixed in post? Happens all the time. Directors make cuts for the studio, not for the story. Blade Runner is the poster child for this. Theatrical cut had that awful voiceover, the Final Cut is a masterpiece. Same movie, different edit, totally different experience.

The guy who said "it's still the same movie just longer" is missing the point. When a studio forces a director to chop out whole character arcs, you're not getting the same movie, you're getting a broken version. Kingdom of Heaven proves a good edit can turn a forgettable mess into something actually meaningful.
