Deleted scene that totally changed how I see the villain's motive in The Dark Knight Rises? I keep going back and forth
I stumbled on a deleted scene from The Dark Knight Rises on YouTube last night where Bane has this quiet moment with a kid in the sewers before everything goes down. It shows him being almost gentle and explains he's doing all this stuff because he thinks he's saving people from a broken system. On one hand it makes him way more human and the whole movie feels deeper, but on the other hand it almost undercuts how scary he is in the final cut. Which do you prefer, the deleted scene that adds complexity or the theatrical version that keeps him as pure menace?

That deleted scene just makes him sound like every other villain with a sob story.

Actually that scene was shot but never meant for the final film.

Reminds me of that time I was on set for a small indie thing years ago, we shot this whole elaborate dream sequence that was gorgeous but the director said it just threw off the pacing. He was right, you could feel it in the editing room. I always wonder what happens to all that footage, whether it sits in a vault somewhere or gets accidentally digitized and leaked. Some of those cut scenes are probably better than what made the final cut, to be honest. But you're right, it's amazing how much stuff gets filmed that was never intended for the finished movie.
