Alternate ending I sat on for 17 years finally got a watch

Back in 2007 I bought the two disc special edition of a movie just for the deleted scenes, but I only ever watched the main film and the commentary. Last week I finally sat down and went through all the extras, and the alternate ending was completely different from what I remembered reading about online. It had this whole subplot with a character who got cut from the theatrical version, and honestly it made the story way more sad but also more real. I kept thinking, why did they cut this? But then I got why, because the theatrical ending is cleaner and leaves you feeling hopeful. It's kind of funny how I sat on those discs for 17 years and only now gave them a shot. Did anyone else have a movie where the deleted scenes actually changed how you saw the whole film?

Buddy of mine had the same thing happen with Blade Runner. He watched the Final Cut after only knowing the theatrical version for years, and suddenly the whole tone flipped for him. The voiceover being gone made Deckard way more mysterious, and he spent a week going down forums debating if he was a replicant. He said it was like watching a different movie entirely, one where the mood mattered more than the plot. Those director's cuts and deleted scenes can really mess with your head when you finally get around to them.
