Screenshots on my phone beat the wayback machine for finding deleted reddit posts
Last month I spent 2 hours trying to pull up a deleted AITA post from a Kansas City user about a wedding invite, and the wayback machine gave me nothing but a blank page. Then I remembered I had screenshotted the whole thing on my phone back in March and found it in 30 seconds. So what do you all use when the archive sites fail you, and does anyone else just hoard screenshots like this?
The thing nobody talks about is that screenshots have timestamps baked in, which matters way more than people realize. I got into a thing last year where someone edited their comment after it blew up, and the screenshot I had from 11:47pm showed the original wording while the thread showed something totally different by morning. Archive sites only grab snapshots when someone runs the crawler, so you miss those edits in between. Your phone is basically a personal archive that runs 24/7 on the stuff you actually care about. Only catch is you gotta remember to scroll and actually grab the whole thread, not just the top comment.
