A deleted post about my old blog made me face what I used to write
Last night I was digging through the Internet Archive, looking for a post I deleted back in 2018 about my favorite coffee shop in Portland. Some stranger had screenshot a paragraph of it and archived it, and reading it felt like meeting a loud, sweaty version of myself. The post was so full of fake outrage about a barista taking 40 seconds too long, and I remember thinking it was clever at the time. It made me wonder how many things I've scrubbed still float around out there, waiting to pop back up in a thread like this. Has anyone else found their own deleted takes and just felt embarrassed for the writer?
A guy I follow on YouTube did a whole video about this, digging up his old LiveJournal posts from like 2004. He found one where he wrote 700 words about his roommate leaving a spoon in the sink, calling it a "betrayal of trust." The comments were brutal, people quoting it back at him for weeks. What got me was how he said the stuff that stung most wasn't the bad opinions, it was how sure he sounded about everything. Reading your own old stuff is like finding a diary written by someone with way too much confidence and not enough sleep.
