Turkey fryer flare up turned my patio into a bonfire site
Last Thanksgiving I left the bird lowering rope unattended for 30 seconds and the oil surged over the pot edge, igniting a 4 foot flame that singed my deck boards in Phoenix. I tried smothering it with a lid but the handle melted off, so I just backed away and let it burn out while my neighbor filmed it. Anyone else have a grease fire that took out more than just dinner?
I used to roll my eyes at those "never fry a turkey" warnings, figured it was just scared people who never tried it. Then my cousin's setup in Tucson did almost the same thing, oil boiled over and the whole thing went up in maybe 2 seconds. Now I'm the guy telling everyone to skip the fryer and just bake it.
