The night I had to choose between chicken wings and french fries
Last Friday I had 3 pounds of wings and a bag of russet potatoes sitting on the counter and only one clean fryer basket. I figured wings would be faster so I went with those first. Big mistake. The oil temp dropped hard when I dropped them in and they came out all soggy with the skin not crispy at all. Then I had to wait for the oil to come back up and tried the fries but the oil was already getting dark and kinda funky tasting from the chicken residue. The fries had this weird aftertaste and I ended up tossing half the batch. Has anyone else tried frying two different things in the same oil and had it work out okay?

Wait, did you seriously think frying wings first was gonna save you time or is that just me being dumb too? I did basically the same thing last month with some onion rings and then tater tots. The oil got all cloudy and smelled like a fast food joint's dumpster. I ended up eating cold cereal for dinner because the tots tasted like they went swimming in onion grease. Sometimes you just gotta accept that one fryer basket means one thing fried that night.
