Had to choose between a cheap fryer and a used commercial one back in 2018
I was broke and needed a deep fryer for a party I was hosting. The $30 one from the discount store lasted exactly one batch of fries before the basket handle snapped off. Ended up grabbing a beat up old commercial model from a diner closing down on Elm Street for $75, and that thing is still going strong today. Anyone else ever gamble on a cheap fryer and regret it?

That whole thing about the basket handle snapping off is exactly the kind of thing that happens with cheap stuff. It's like you pay less upfront but then you're just gambling on whether it'll work for more than one use. I've noticed this with a lot of things actually, not just fryers. You end up paying more in the long run because you're replacing it over and over, or you're just stuck with a broken thing.

right? it's like the universe is telling you "you get what you pay for" but in the most painful way possible. i swear cheap stuff is designed to break just to test your patience. like, oh cool, you saved 20 bucks but now you have a useless hunk of metal and a detached handle that's probably gonna give you a grease burn if you're not careful. it's always the handles too, never the motor or the heating element. just the one part you actually need to grip while dodging hot oil.

no way, only one batch of fries before the handle snapped? that's insane. i've had cheap stuff break quick before but that's like a whole other level of junk. my buddy bought a $20 air fryer from the flea market and the timer knob fell off the first time he tried to set it. i guess with fryers especially you're dealing with hot oil and heavy baskets so cheap plastic handles are just asking for trouble. your $75 commercial one sounds like a steal though, those old diner ones are built like tanks.
