Update: My home router was still using the default admin password after 5 years

I was setting up a new smart plug last week and the app asked for my router's login. I typed in 'admin' and 'password' out of habit and it actually worked, which was a huge wake-up call. I live in Austin and my ISP gave me that router back in 2019, so it's been wide open this whole time. Has anyone else found an old device with terrible default settings they forgot about?

How many of our old gadgets are just sitting there wide open like that? I had the same cold sweat moment with a security camera my dad gave me, found it still had the factory login from 2016. It really does make you want to unplug everything and start over.

Just realized my old printer is probably in the same boat, still using the default network password from like 2017. It's plugged into the guest wifi but still, that's a scary thought. Makes me want to go check every single gadget in the house now.
