TIL most data breaches start with a simple email trick

I read a report from the FTC that said over 90% of successful cyber attacks begin with a phishing email. Has anyone else seen these get way more convincing lately?

Got one last week that looked exactly like a real shipping notice from my bank.

Yeah those fake shipping notices are getting scary good. I got one that looked just like my credit card's real alerts. The big red flag was the sender email, some weird string of letters instead of the bank's official domain. I always check that now before clicking anything. Forwarded it to the real bank's fraud email and they confirmed it was a scam.

Looked exactly like" is a bit much. These scams are not that perfect if you look close. The logos are usually fuzzy and the links go to weird places. People just panic and don't check the details. It's only serious if you actually fall for it and give them your info. Most of these are just spam hoping someone bites.
