Spent $180 on a YubiKey and now my phone is the weak link

I finally got tired of SMS codes being phished, so I bought two YubiKeys for my accounts. First week was great, but then I realized I had my backup codes stored in Google Drive, which I accessed from a logged-in laptop at a coffee shop. Someone grabbed that session and my 2FA did nothing. So the keys helped, but they only matter if you lock down every other angle. Is it worth the money for most people, or am I just paranoid for paying that much?

So you bought a $180 lock and then left the key under the mat, huh? That's basically putting a vault door on a screen door and calling it a day. The coffee shop laptop move is the icing on the cake, like paying for a top notch security system and then leaving the window open for the breeze. Honestly, for most people, a hardware key is overkill unless you're like a target for the CIA or something. But hey, at least you found out the hard way that the weakest link is always the human sitting in front of the screen with a latte. Paranoia is just a hobby that costs $180, so enjoy it.
