PSA: I thought a password manager was overkill until my email got hit

For years I just used a few simple passwords for everything, thinking 'who would bother with my stuff?' Then last Tuesday my main email got locked out. The recovery showed login attempts from a place in Romania. It took me two full days to get back in and secure everything. I finally set up Bitwarden and it made me realize how weak my old system was. Has anyone else had a close call that finally pushed them to use a password manager?

That Romanian login attempt is a classic sign of a credential stuffing attack. They use passwords leaked from other sites, not guesswork. A manager stops that because every password is unique.

Yeah that "who would bother with my stuff" thought is so real, I used to say the same thing. Getting locked out of my old gaming account was my wake up call, total nightmare. Now I can't imagine going back to remembering them all.

My cousin lost access to her whole photo library because she forgot the password to her old email. Took her weeks to get it back from support, and she missed a bunch of family event pictures. It was a mess.
