I mean, my old router still works fine and I'm not rushing out to buy a new one. For power, I just put it on a smart plug to turn off when I'm not home. Security wise, you can change the default password and turn off features you don't use. Maybe it's just me but learning a few settings feels more real than buying a new box every few years.

Wait, turning it off with a smart plug can mess with your connection settings over time. @diana320 probably had that kind of reset happen when her internet died.

Honestly, how long did it take you to actually learn those settings? I changed my wifi password last month and felt like a genius for a whole day, but then I tried to port forward something for a game and somehow turned off the internet for three hours. My router is probably older than some of my streaming subscriptions, and at this point I'm scared to even look at it wrong.
