My neighbor's smart doorbell got him robbed in Phoenix
He told me 'it's fine, the app has a password' while the default admin login was still active. The guy who broke in just looked up the model online. Anyone else seen people skip the basic setup steps?

Man, that's rough. I'm the guy who still has the default password on my router, so I probably shouldn't talk. How do people even remember all these new logins?

Honestly default passwords are fine for most people. Burglars are usually looking for easy targets, not hacking your doorbell. This whole thing feels like fear mongering over a rare event.

Flip it around for a second. A burglar doesn't need to hack your doorbell's camera feed itself. They just need access to the network that doorbell is on. Default passwords for IoT devices are often posted online in lists. So if someone can find your doorbell on Shodan or a similar tool, they can hop onto your WiFi without you ever knowing. Once they're on your network, they're not after your doorbell footage, they're after your PC, your phone backups, your bank logins saved in browsers. Default passwords turn a cheap doorbell into an open door for your whole digital life. Don't you think that changes the risk?
