Can we talk about airport Wi-Fi security? I had a scare last week.

Last week, I was at JFK airport waiting for my flight to Chicago. I connected to the free Wi-Fi to check my emails and browse the web. A few hours later, I got alerts on my phone about login attempts on my social media accounts. I think the airport Wi-Fi might not have been safe. I quickly changed all my passwords and turned off Wi-Fi for the rest of the trip. Now I'm worried about using public networks when I travel. I go on trips every month for work, so this is a real issue for me. What do you guys do to protect your devices on airport Wi-Fi?

That login attempt scare is no joke, happened to a friend of mine too. Airport Wi-Fi can be a minefield. Did you notice if the network required a password or was it completely open? Open networks are way easier to mess with. Using a VPN is pretty much essential these days, but even then, I'm paranoid about checking the network name twice.

Check if your phone's hotspot is safer than public wifi, @the_grace, mine has worked fine for years.

Hotspots can be just as risky, honestly.
