Tried spray foam insulation vs. fiberglass batts on my last build in Austin...
The spray foam was way more expensive upfront but my HVAC guy said the homeowner will save about $80 a month on cooling alone down here. Has anyone else switched over and seen those kinds of numbers hold up?

Take that $80 savings with a grain of salt until you see your own bills.

Preach, Margaret. I did the exact same thing on a flip in Houston last year and my HVAC guy was dead on. First summer the AC barely cycled on, and the electric bill dropped like $75 compared to the same house with batts the year before. The kicker was the noise reduction too - spray foam turned that attic into a silent zone, no more hearing every car drive by. It's a tough pill to swallow up front but after two summers it paid for itself in my book.
