Three weeks to fix a crawl space vent that should've taken a day

I spec'd a simple 14-inch vent in the foundation near Durham, NC and the framing crew buried it behind the siding without a damper. Took me 3 weeks of back and forth with the GC and manufacturer to get a replacement that actually matched the hole pattern, plus another 2 days to cut the siding back. Everyone acts like crawl space vents are plug and play, but nobody talks about how the flashing and trim details fight you the whole way. Anyone else have a tiny detail like this eat up half a month on their build?
