The tile layout on my 1,200 sq ft master bath took 2 weeks, not 2 days. Here's what tripped me up.
I keep seeing people post timelines for bathroom remodels like "tile done in a weekend" and I call BS on that for anyone doing it solo. My master bath, 1,200 square feet total including the shower, took me 14 days just for the tile. Not the prep, not the grout, the actual laying. The problem was the layout. I measured everything three times, dry laid a row, and it still looked off because the walls are not square. My house was built in 1987 and nothing is plumb. I ended up shaving 3/8 of an inch off the tiles along the tub line to hide the gap, and that took half a day alone. Plus, I used large format 24x24 porcelain, and leveling those things with clips is slow work when you're by yourself. Every tile needed a check with the laser level or it would drift. Has anyone else run into walls being that far off? How do you handle the layout when the blueprint square just doesn't exist in real life?
