That week in July when our foundation pour got hit by a heat wave near Austin set us back 3 weeks
We didn't wet cure the slab properly and it cracked in 8 places before the forms even came off. Has anyone else dealt with curing issues in Texas summers or did we just get unlucky with our mix?

8 cracks before the forms came off" - sounds like you poured a puzzle, not a slab.

Take it easy on them. Eight cracks sounds bad but it's probably just surface stuff from drying too fast. Concrete does what it wants sometimes.
