That $8k smart home system I insisted on? Mostly useless now

I pushed for a full Lutron and Control4 setup when we built in 2021. Cost around $8k with install. Three years later I touch the wall panels maybe once a month. The app takes 10 seconds to load for something a switch does instantly. If I did it over, I'd wire everything standard and add a few smart bulbs. Anyone else regret the fancy automation package when the basic stuff holds up fine?

Man, I feel this in my bones. My brother in law talked me into a whole Z-Wave setup back in 2019, hubs, repeaters, the works. Spent a whole weekend pairing devices and labeling everything in the app. Fast forward to now and half those devices dropped off the network and I never bothered to re-add them. The hallway light that was supposed to come on with motion? I just flip it by hand like a caveman. My wife still makes fun of me for it. The one thing that survived is a cheap $15 bulb in the lamp by the couch. Go figure.
