Shoutout to the plumber who told me my pipe burst was my fault

So last Tuesday I'm standing in my half-finished basement, watching water spray out of a PEX fitting I installed myself. The plumber I called walks in, takes one look, and goes 'you used the wrong crimp ring size, buddy.' Turns out I grabbed a 1/2 inch ring for 3/4 inch pipe. Had to tear out two sheets of drywall and redo the whole line. Anyone else ever screw up a basic plumbing job and pay the price twice?

Bought a bidet attachment once and hooked it up backwards. Water shot straight into the electrical outlet behind the toilet. Fried the GFCI and soaked my bathroom rug. My wife still brings it up at dinner parties. Least the plumber only charged me for the service call since he was laughing too hard to upsell me on anything.

Five hundred bucks for a service call plus the parts I had to buy twice. That's what it cost me to learn that sharkbite fittings aren't always the easy answer. I used to think plumbing was just water going through pipes, and if it didn't leak right away you were good. But after I had to cut out a whole section of copper because I overheated a joint and it cracked three months later, I started actually reading the instructions. Now I watch YouTube tutorials twice before touching anything with water pressure. That bidet story is brutal though, at least your wife got a dinner party story out of it.
