Serious question, did anyone else switch from graph paper sketches to a tablet for floor plans?
I used to sketch every floor plan on graph paper with a mechanical pencil, and I mean every single one for like 12 years. Then last April I got a cheap tablet and a $10 app, and now I draw everything on that. The big change was revisions. On paper, moving a wall meant erasing and redrawing half the sheet. On the tablet I just drag it, and I can show clients the new layout right there at the kitchen table. I still print the final plan on 11x17 for the crew because nobody wants to read a screen with sawdust on their hands. Has anyone found an app that lets you export a simple PDF without a monthly fee?
Ha, I feel this one in my bones. I held onto graph paper way too long, mostly because I was scared a tablet would make me look like I had no idea what I was doing, and honestly the first month proved me right. My lines looked like a toddler got ahold of an etch a sketch, but once it clicked I never went back. The drag thing is the whole ballgame for me too, moving one wall used to eat my whole afternoon. I use a free app that spits out a basic PDF, nothing fancy, no fee last I checked, it just does the one job.
