PSA: A site visit in Portland completely changed how I think about window placement

I was walking through a spec house under construction in the Pearl District last month, and the architect pointed out something I'd never considered. They had placed a huge picture window facing a brick wall just 15 feet away, which seemed crazy at first. He explained they were planning for a future vertical garden on that wall, turning a potential negative into a feature. It made me realize we often pick window spots just for the view right now, not for what the space could become in five years. Has anyone else designed around a future landscape feature that isn't there yet?

Wait a full TWO YEARS for a painting? That is some serious patience right there.

Honestly, two years feels like a crazy long time to me. I'd get so tired of looking at an empty wall or waiting on a single piece. Tbh I'd rather find an artist with a shorter wait or even buy a cool print to fill the space now. Life's too short to put your home on hold for that long.

My friend did that with a blank wall for future murals!

My cousin in Austin left a whole bedroom wall empty for two years. She finally got a local artist to paint a massive desert scene last month. It was totally worth the wait.
