Overheard a guy at the hardware store say he was building a 'secret room' just for his cat.
He was buying a tiny door and talking about running cat6 cable in there for a webcam. It got me thinking about all the weird custom stuff we put in houses that we never talk about. What's the most out there feature you've ever been asked to build into a home?

Oh man, that cat room is actually pretty genius. I helped a friend build a hidden reading nook behind a bookcase once, and the trick was using really quiet hinges so it didn't sound like a door. We just used some simple cabinet hardware from the same hardware store. The best part is how happy it made them, having a little spot just for quiet time. What do you think makes people want to build these secret spaces?

Quiet hinges are key, just like @cooper.linda said. I used some soft-close ones from a drawer slide on a hidden panel once. People just want a fun little escape spot, even if it's just for their cat.
