Our architect in Bend pointed out a major flaw in our window placement
We were set on a wall of south facing windows for the view, but she said it would turn the main living area into a greenhouse by 2pm in summer. She pushed us to move half of them to the east wall instead. Now we get morning light without the afternoon heat trap. Has anyone else had to rethink a big design choice late in the planning stage?

At least you didn't have to grow a vine army to hide your mistake like some people.

Yeah, that's a classic rookie move. South facing glass is brutal if you don't plan for it. Our place in Arizona had the same issue, we ended up adding a deep overhang outside. It lets in winter sun but blocks the high summer heat. Your architect saved you from a huge, expensive mistake.

Oh man, your architect absolutely saved your bacon. We did exactly that mistake on our first house, huge south facing windows in the Colorado mountains. By July we were literally baking in there, even with the windows open. Had to install these awful reflective blinds that totally killed the view we paid for. Ended up putting a pergola with vines outside to shade them, which took years to grow in proper. That east wall move is genius, we did something similar in our next place and it made the whole room feel way more comfortable all day long.
