My window supplier swore lead time was 4 weeks, turned into 14

I ordered custom casement windows from a local shop near Portland back in March. They kept saying "next week" for about 8 weeks straight, which made me miss my drywall schedule entirely. By the time they showed up, I had already framed in temporary plywood just to keep the weather out. Has anyone else dealt with a vendor who just couldn't give a straight timeline?

Read a thing from an old school contractor that said window companies are the worst about timelines because they sub out so much of the work. The glass, the frame, the hardware all come from different places and they have zero control over any of it. Sounds like your guys just kept kicking the can down the road instead of being honest. Fourteen weeks is brutal, especially when you had to block up your own openings.

Wait, isn't it more that the glass and frames usually come from the same supplier? Most window companies I've dealt with order pre-assembled units from one manufacturer, it's the hardware (handles, locks, hinges) that can be from different vendors. The real problem I've seen is that when one part shows up damaged or wrong, the whole assembly gets held up because the company doesn't want to piecemeal a fix. So yeah, fourteen weeks is nuts, but it's probably more about them waiting for a whole new unit than juggling three separate subs.
