My new kitchen sink drain failed the day after the plumber left, had to pull the whole cabinet apart.

Oh perfect, right on schedule. That's the plumber's version of a warranty, isn't it? Works great until you're the one holding the bill. Bet they told you it was a "coincidence" and not their fault.

Works great until you're the one holding the bill" - that pretty much sums up every contractor experience I've ever had. It's like there's this secret rule in home repair: the job isn't done until a second problem shows up three days later. My brother had his HVAC guy "fix" his furnace, then the AC went out the next week. Coincidence? Please. I'm convinced they've got a playbook somewhere that says "leave one thing loose enough to fail." At least yours was the day after - mine waited until I'd already told everyone how great the new kitchen was.
