It took a full house wrap inspection to make me realize my flashing order was backward
I was doing a custom build outside of Austin and had the inspector walk through. He pointed out that I was putting the window flashing on after the house wrap, which means water can get behind it. I had been doing it that way for about 14 houses and nobody ever said anything. Has anyone else had a basic trade habit that was wrong for years, and how did you find out?

How does a mistake like that even survive for 14 houses if it's actually wrong? I ask because I've noticed inspectors in different areas flag totally different things, and what fails in one town passes fine ten miles down the road. The wrap-over-flashing thing gets argued about in a lot of building groups, with some guys saying it depends on whether you're dealing with a drainage plane wrap or the old felt style. Not saying the inspector was off base, but I'd want to know if he's going by code or by his own preference before I tore up my whole method. Your mileage may vary, but that's the first thing I'd pin down.
