I finally caved and bought a laser level after fighting with a string line for 3 days
I was dead set on using the old string and bubble level method for my custom build in Spokane. After snapping three strings and re-leveling a foundation wall twice, I drove to the hardware store at 9pm. That laser level cost me $180 but it leveled my whole 40-foot wall in 20 minutes. Has anyone else held out on a tool forever and regretted it?

Wait, you went back and redid a foundation wall twice? That's brutal, I would have given up after the first mess up. Three days of fighting a string line sounds like pure misery, and I bet that $180 laser paid for itself in just that one use.

and honestly @angela_grant, the worst part was having to dig out the old concrete with a sledgehammer while my wife kept asking why I couldn't just "leave it crooked." she didn't get that a 1/4 inch off at the foundation means the whole shed ends up looking like a funhouse mirror. my buddy loaned me his laser level after i posted about it on facebook and i swear i felt like a professional for a whole hour. now i just borrow his instead of buying my own because i don't do enough concrete work to justify the cost. but yeah that string line fight is real, i think i still have phantom tension in my hands from pulling that thing tight a thousand times.
