Hot take: My 'dream' kitchen island almost ruined my whole floor plan

I insisted on a huge 10-foot island for our new build, but when the cabinets went in last Tuesday, it totally blocked the flow from the living room. Our contractor in Boise just shook his head and said, 'I told you to tape it out first.' Anyone else have a feature they loved on paper that didn't work in real space?

Honestly, my last apartment had one of those fancy waterfall countertops. Looked amazing online, but in my tiny kitchen it just became the world's most expensive knee-bruiser. I must have hit my hip on that sharp corner like three times a week. Tbh, I started walking sideways through the whole room just to avoid it.
