Found a weird trick for keeping my framing square from slipping

I was getting sick of my square sliding around on wet lumber, so I tried putting a strip of grippy shelf liner on the back side. It stuck on for three weeks now and hasn't budged an inch. Anyone else use a random hack like this for their layout tools?

The shelf liner trick is interesting but I gotta ask - is it leaving any sticky residue behind when you peel it off? I tried double sided tape once and it was a nightmare cleaning that gunk off my square. That's the main reason I don't mess with add ons for tools that need to stay precise. Residue can throw off measurements if it builds up over time too.

Man that residue concern is totally valid, I feel your pain. I actually tried the same double sided tape thing once and spent a good 20 minutes with Goo Gone getting that mess off. The shelf liner I used doesn't leave anything sticky behind when I've pulled it off to test, it's more like a rubbery grip that just sits on there. I made sure to get the kind that's not adhesive on both sides, just the one side sticks to the liner itself. Still worth checking before you commit though, because different brands might act different. Have you found anything that works for you without the gunk problem?
