Dropped $2,400 on a lighting designer for my custom build in Boise and the electrician ignored the whole plan
We paid a lighting designer $2,400 for a full reflected ceiling plan on our 2,800 sq ft custom build, and the electrician roughed in every recessed can on his own grid before we caught it. Now we have lights sitting 14 inches off where the cabinets and art walls are going, plus two switches behind where the fridge lands, and the fix quote came back at $3,100. Has anyone gotten a builder to eat the cost when a sub ignores the drawings, or am I just stuck paying for round two?
Two switches behind where the fridge lands? That is not a small miss. That is a guy who either never looked at the plan or looked at it and decided he knew better. Fourteen inches off is the part that really gets me though. That's not a rounding error, that's a whole different room layout. I'd be asking the builder for the electrician's signed sheet showing he reviewed the drawings, because most subs sign off on that. If he skipped the plan on a house you already paid a designer for, that's on the builder to sort out, not you.
