Unpopular opinion: That 2014 'deep' quote I posted on Facebook was just pretentious nonsense

I was cleaning out my old Facebook memories last week and found a status I posted in 2014 that said something like 'The universe doesn't owe you anything, but you owe yourself everything.' My roommate at the time, Chris, saw me scrolling and laughed out loud. He said, 'Dude, that's just a fancy way of saying you have no real advice.' That hit me harder than I expected because he was right. I had totally bought into that whole era of vague, inspirational quotes that sounded profound but meant nothing. Looking back, I cringe so hard at how much I thought that text-on-a-sunset background was wisdom. Now I see those kind of posts on Instagram and all I can think is, what are you actually trying to say? Has anyone else had a friend call them out on their old cringey quote phase?

@miles72 and his grandma had the right idea. Those quotes are just word salad.

My buddy Kevin once posted a quote about "rising like a phoenix" and his grandma asked if he got hurt.
