That live stream mic failure in Austin taught me the hard way
Tbh I was running my usual 8pm art stream from my apartment in Austin when the audio just cut mid-sentence, 40 viewers watching and all I could do was stare at my own frozen face on the monitor. Turns out my interface driver updated itself without asking, and I spent 15 frantic minutes swapping cables while typing sorry in the chat every few seconds. Does anyone else keep a backup mic ready for those random tech meltdowns, or do you just roll with the silence and hope folks stick around?
Kept it simple and just embraced the dead air instead of having a whole backup setup collecting dust. Honestly, most of those 40 viewers are there for the art, not the voiceover, so a mute minute here and there probably loses you way fewer people than you think. Buying a second mic, a second interface, extra cables, that is real money and real desk space for a problem that pops up maybe twice a year. A driver updating itself is annoying, sure, but the fix is a five minute rollback, not a spare rig sitting in a drawer.
