Spent 3 hours editing a 90 second reel that got 12 views

I put together a travel reel from my trip to Portland last month. Perfect transitions, color graded everything, even synced the beat drops. Posted it on Instagram and my cat video from the same day got 2,400 views. What's the point of all that effort if nobody sees it anyway.

The algorithm punishes you for not having your audience warmed up. Post a few stories first, comment on similar accounts for 10 minutes, then drop the reel. Also check your hashtags - if you used 30 broad ones like "travel" or "portland" the algorithm buries you. Stick to 3-5 specific ones like "pacificnorthwesthikes".

Watched a friend try 30 hashtags last week, tanked her engagement completely.

Patricia knows what's up. @the_patricia nailed it on the warm up thing. I learned that one the hard way. Posted a reel cold once, got like 12 views. Felt like I was shouting into an empty room. Now I do the story warm up and it actually works. My hashtag game is still a mess though, stuck on like 15 broad ones. Need to trim down to specific tags like she said. Guess I just want all the possible views. But she's right, the algorithm punishes that greed.
