My monitor brightness was lying to me for 2 years, editing at 100% ruined every upload
I used to crank my screen to max brightness so I could see every detail, but my client videos kept coming out way too dark on their phones. Last month I finally calibrated with a $30 spyder device and realized my panel was pushing 250 nits over the standard. Now I edit at 80% brightness in a dim room and re-export test clips before sending. Has anyone else trusted their eyes over a calibration tool and paid for it in reshoots?

Wait, you didn't notice the blacks turning to gray mush on your own screen before spending money on the Spyder? My phone display made me redo an entire wedding edit because I trusted the backlight and everything came out looking like a nightclub scene. Calibration is cheap insurance, but honestly, 80% in a dim room is still a guess unless you're checking vectorscopes. I feel your pain though, the first time I saw my own work on a proper monitor I almost deleted the whole project.
