I spent $400 on a 'viral' light kit and it made my videos look like a crime scene
I saw this fancy three-point lighting setup on a big tech channel and thought it would fix my flat, boring shots. The kit arrived with like fifteen pieces and a manual that made zero sense. After three hours of setup, my face looked so harsh and shadowy my wife walked in and asked if I was filming a true crime confession. I'm back to my old desk lamp and a cheap ring light from two years ago that just works. Has anyone else bought a piece of gear that was way too much for what they actually needed?

Ugh, been there! I bought a crazy expensive mic that picked up every single noise in my house.

Tell me you at least kept the box for a return. Sounds like @kaid59 and you both got sold on specs over actual use. What finally made you give up and go back to the old lamp?
