Found a hidden editing trick in an old hotel lobby

I was in Austin for a weekend shoot and got stuck waiting in this tiny hotel lobby for like 2 hours. The owner had a tablet showing a slideshow of guest photos, and the way it crossfaded between images gave me this idea for my own transitions. I tried it out on my last video, just matching the fade speed to the music beat, and it made the whole thing feel way smoother. Has anyone else stolen ideas from random places like that, or am I just weird for staring at hotel screens?
