Ditched Patreon for direct donations and my income dropped 60% in one month

Six months ago I got fed up with Patreon taking their cut and telling me how to run things. Switched everything to a Buy Me a Coffee button on my site and hoped my followers would follow. They didn't. Lost about 40 regular supporters out of 70. Now I'm making less money and spending more time chasing people to donate. Was the principle worth it? Honestly not sure anymore. Anyone else try leaving platforms and regret it?

Three days in a row I've seen people on here trading one frustration for another and calling it a win. It's like we're all just picking which bugs we can live with.
