Craft fair at the county fairgrounds made me rethink my booth setup
I set up my handmade ceramic mugs at the county fairgrounds last Saturday and literally watched people walk past my table without even glancing at the glaze work, which I spent 40 hours perfecting. Turns out the vendor next to me had a little demo wheel spinning and everyone stopped to watch him throw clay, even though his finished pieces were way rougher than mine. Has anyone else had to switch from showing finished work to doing live demos just to get foot traffic at these events?

And honestly, the demo wheel is less about selling the pot and more about selling the show, people love watching the process way more than the product. Once you get them stopped and talking, that's when they actually pick up your mugs and notice the glaze work you slaved over. Maybe try doing a quick trimming demo or even just throwing a few lumps of clay on a hand wheel next time, it doesn't have to be fancy, just enough to give them a reason to pause.
