Appreciation post: A wedding gig in Austin taught me to always pack a backup mic
The groom's best man started his speech by screaming directly into the capsule and completely blew it out. Has anyone else had a piece of gear die at the absolute worst moment?

Backup mics are a lifesaver, but I've learned to double up on cables too. A DJ once tripped over my main XLR during the first dance and ripped the connector right off. Now I keep a short, coiled spare in my pocket. It's the cheap, simple things that fail at the worst times. A backup plan for your backup plan is the real lesson.

Oh man, @nancy475, that's so true. I had a speaker stand leg crush my main cable right before a toast. My heart stopped. Now I tape down any cable path people might walk, and yeah, I keep that same coiled spare in my bag. It's never the big gear that goes down, it's always a five dollar cable.

A sound guy I know calls cables "consumables" because they fail so often, @nancy475. What's your go-to brand for durability?
