A chat with my barber about my podcast made me change my intro

I was getting a haircut last week and my barber, Mike, said he tried my show but turned it off after 30 seconds. He told me, "Your intro music is too loud and that long sponsor read at the start feels like an ad, not a show." It hit different because he's not a creator, just a normal listener. I cut the intro music volume by half and moved the first ad to the 8 minute mark. Has anyone else gotten blunt feedback from a non-creator friend that actually helped?

Maybe we're overthinking this stuff. Your barber's just one guy with an opinion, right?

Started asking for small changes first. Built up trust over time.

Exactly! My last barber talked me into a fringe cut that made me look like a toddler from an old painting. I walked out feeling like I had to hide until it grew back. We give these folks way too much power over our heads sometimes. It's just hair, it'll grow, but man, that week was rough. Lesson learned.
