Wrote my first prompt in 45 minutes flat instead of 3 hours

Used to spend all evening staring at blank pages. Rewriting the same first line like 20 times. Last week I just set a timer and forced myself to type whatever came up. Got a full prompt out about a mechanic who finds a message in a car door panel. Has anyone else tried speed writing prompts instead of overthinking them?

Read that setting a timer tricks your brain into thinking it's a game instead of work. Sounds like it worked out pretty well for you.

My buddy Tim tried the timer trick and wrote a prompt about a haunted vending machine that only dispenses expired snacks. He said it was terrible but somehow got 40 upvotes on a writing subreddit. I think there's something to just getting the garbage out first and cleaning it up later.

Yeah I tried that and ended up writing about a dog that solves mysteries, no idea where that came from.
