Went to that historic site in Williamsburg for inspiration...

Drove out to Colonial Williamsburg last Saturday to get some setting ideas for a historical fiction piece. Walked through the old print shop and everything, but the place was packed with tourists taking selfies and kids screaming. I couldn't focus on anything for more than 2 minutes. Has anyone else struggled to find quiet spots to observe real historical locations without all the noise?

Honestly, I think you're looking at this all wrong. The noise and chaos are part of the real history too - that print shop wasn't some quiet museum back in the day, it was probably loud and full of people shouting and kids running around. If you want total silence for inspiration, just look at pictures online, but the actual site is supposed to feel alive, man.

The real issue is that the tour guides are repeating the same script from 15 years ago without updating it. I was there last month and overheard one telling people the building had "original wooden beams" when you could clearly see modern fireproofing spray on them. If they're going to make it feel alive, they should at least be honest about what's actually real and what's been restored.
