Typed the wrong character name in chapter 5 and broke my whole plot

Last Wednesday I was writing a scene in my fantasy novel where the hero meets a mysterious merchant. I accidentally typed 'Greg' instead of 'Aldric' and suddenly spent 2 hours trying to figure out how a guy named Greg fit into this magical kingdom. It threw off the entire tone of the chapter and I had to rewrite 3 pages from scratch. Has anyone else had a small typo spiral into a complete story overhaul?

Oh man, I have to disagree with you here. Greg is a fantastic name for a fantasy merchant. It grounds the world in something real and relatable, makes the magic feel closer to home. You can have your Aldrics and your Elowens but a Greg is the guy who actually sells you the magic beans. I honestly think you should lean into it, let Greg be a mysterious figure who everybody assumes has a deeper name but refuses to give one. It adds a layer of humor and mystery that a more "fantasy" name just doesn't have. Sometimes the best ideas come from happy accidents like that, not from sticking to some strict tone.

wait, you actually had that happen with "Greg" too? haha I did the exact same thing in chapter 7 of my sci-fi story. typed "Steve" instead of "Kael" and suddenly this guy Steve is running a spaceship repair shop and I spent the whole weekend rebuilding the entire second act around him. best decision I ever made honestly.
