My writing group in Tempe went from sharing vague ideas to producing finished stories in just six months.

We started using a specific rule: every prompt had to include a concrete object, a specific location, and a time limit. Before, our meetings were just talking; now, we each bring a complete 500-word piece based on the same constraints. What's one simple rule that transformed your group's output?

My gym started a similar thing with 3 exercise moves and a 20 minute cap. Turns out a hard limit forces you to focus and actually finish the workout.

Used to think rules killed creativity but wow that actually sounds smart.

Oh yeah, it's not really about rules killing anything. More like rules give you a container to work in, and most people need that to actually get stuff done. The 3 exercise limit thing works because it removes the paralysis of too many choices. You're not wondering what to do next, you just do the next thing on the list. That's how creativity actually works a lot of the time.
