Hit 1,000 words in a single sitting for the first time in five years of writing prompts

That number shocked me because I've been stuck at 200 for months and it just happened last night with a locked room prompt, anyone else break a plateau out of nowhere?

Hitting 1,000 words doesn't sound like a breakthrough, it sounds like you got lucky with a gimmicky prompt and now you're gonna chase that high instead of building actual craft. Locked room stuff is a crutch, it gives you a built-in structure so you don't have to think about pacing or character motivation. You were stuck at 200 because that's probably the natural length your brain needs to process a scene, and now you're gonna force every idea into a box to squeeze out a higher count. Five years and this is the milestone? Maybe the plateau is telling you something about your approach.

Wait you actually hit 1,000 words on a locked room prompt? That's wild because same thing happened to me last week on a time loop prompt, I was stuck at maybe 150 words for months and then boom I just kept going and couldn't stop. Everyone says those are cheap tricks but honestly they unlocked something in my brain that regular prompts never did, maybe I needed that forced structure to actually let words flow instead of trying to be clever. The plateau might be real for you but this feels different, like your brain finally clicked into gear.
