Finally wrote 30 prompts in 30 days after a librarian in Des Moines handed me an old index card box
I was at the downtown library in Des Moines about two months ago and they had this little display of old index card boxes full of writing prompts from the 80s. I sat down and flipped through maybe 200 of them, and one card just said 'write about the last time you got lost on purpose.' I copied down 12 of my favorites into my phone right there. That night I made a dumb rule for myself: write one prompt a day for 30 days, no skipping, at least 100 words each. I finished the whole run last Thursday and now I have 30 weird little scenes I actually like, plus a few I can turn into longer stuff. The card about getting lost on purpose turned into a 2,000 word short story and I haven't written fiction in 6 years. Does anyone else keep a physical prompt box or cards, or is it all apps and random generators for you?
